I have lived in Eagle Mountain since 2008 and have seen the tremendous growth it has undergone. I joined the Eagle Mountain Citizens group shortly after it was formed. Before Melissa Clark was on City Council the first time, I remember that she was very interested in things that went on in the city. She would live stream the City Council meetings to those on Facebook that couldn’t make it to the meeting. This was before City Council meetings were streamed live.
Melissa then served her first term as a City Council member. Instead of running for a second term she gave her shot at running for mayor and unfortunately, didn’t win that time. However, that did not stop Melissa from dedicating her time and effort into creating growth in Eagle Mountain. She headed and continues to run Valley Crossroads Chamber of Commerce which is formally known as Eagle Mountain Chamber of Commerce. Melissa has worked with many businesses to get them to support our community. Melissa also has worked with major companies to get grants. This was for small business support like the Launchpad. The Chamber offers so many opportunities to help local small businesses become successful. Melissa was also able to get several training and networking sessions set up not only for small businesses but also for the non-profits that are local. I personally have worked with her as a representative of a non-profit organization. I saw all the hard work and dedication she would give every single project she took on.
Melissa Clark has loved this city since she raised her family here. She has poured her heart, mind, and soul into making it a better place for other families to live and grow. Much of the growth we have today is because of what Melissa has been able to help coordinate with the Chamber. I’ve lived in my neighborhood for nearly 20 years, and I’ve known Melissa Clark for most of that time. Throughout her service to our community, Melissa has consistently proven that she’s about action, not just talk. When I raised concerns about a poorly placed crosswalk where drivers often failed to stop for pedestrians, especially children, Melissa listened and responded. Thanks to her help, we now have clearer signage, fresh paint, and visibility triangles that make the crossing safer. When cars were parking too close to the crosswalk and blocking the view of children trying to cross, she walked me through the process of requesting the curbs be painted red and brought up to legal code.

I met Melissa Clark years ago during a big mess with The Ranches HOA. She came up to me excited and said I was “Facebook famous.” That moment stuck—not because of what she said, but because she was genuinely enthusiastic and intentional about connecting. One summer, in an effort to keep my busy young boys active and occupied I signed them up for a beginning skateboarding class. Suddenly I was a skatepark mom. They couldn’t get enough. At least 3 days a week we were driving to different skateparks - all at least 30 minutes away and spending hours in the heat of summer. They loved it! And I loved what the skate community gave to them.
10 years ago I sat talking with Melissa Clark about skateboarding and what it had done for my boys. She was serving with the Parks department at the time and we got to dreaming of a new, well built and well designed concrete skatepark in the Ranches of Eagle mountain. She encouraged me to apply for a grant the Parks department had available.
I gathered some of the youth from our neighborhood and their friends in the community. The kids went door to door to get signatures on a petition to the city. A partner and I did our research on the impacts of skateparks on communities, common problems and their solutions. I connected with a well respected design and build company that I knew would build a great skatepark. We presented our information to the parks committee. The project wasn’t right for that particular grant program, but it got our idea in front of the city for the first time.
Over the next 10 years Melissa continued to work on the project. I met with more city officials and continued to advocate for a new park for our community. I knew what it could be and what it could offer to youth and adults in Eagle Mountain.
Melissa never gave up on the dream. She advocated for our skatepark through her time in the parks department and continued as she took office in city council. When she handed a giant pair of scissors to my 12 year old to help cut the ribbon on the Smith Ranch park my eyes welled with tears. Our dream had become a reality.
Melissa Clark listens. She catches the vision and she doesn’t give up. She wants the best for Eagle Mountain and works hard for as long as it takes to get the job done. She forms connections with people - with residents, businesses and civil servants of all kinds so that she can get things done in smart, efficient ways.
Melissa has built incredible things in our city by not ever believing something is too big or impossible to achieve. She has done this for our parks, on city council and for the chamber of commerce. As a small business owner I have seen the incredible resources she has built in her short time running the chamber. What she has created there is nothing short of incredible.
