How Does Eagle Mountain Handle Winter Storms?

ree

We've been getting some great questions about snow removal in Eagle Mountain, so I wanted to take a moment to share what our city is doing and what my experience has been.

Eagle Mountain covers over 50 square miles with hundreds of lane miles of roads to maintain. When snow storms hit, it’s all hands on deck—and I’ve seen firsthand how dedicated our Public Works team is to keeping our city moving.

Our Snow Removal Fleet Includes:

4 ten-wheeler plow trucks (these are the massive ones that do the heavy lifting)

4 large bobtail dump truck plows

3 one-ton pickup truck plows for tighter neighborhoods and detail work

Salt & Ice Control:

We maintain a dedicated salt shed that holds about 2,200 tons of salt. A week of back-to-back storms can use that up quickly, so the team constantly monitors supply levels and restocks as needed.

Strategic Planning & Growth:

-City Council has invested in traffic cameras at key intersections to monitor conditions in real time—even overnight.

-Land has already been purchased on the north side of the city for a future public works as our community continues to grow.

Prioritized Snow Removal Plan:

When snow starts falling, plow crews follow this priority system:

1st: Arterial roads & school zones

2nd: Collector roads, hills, and curves

3rd: Residential streets

During major storms, crews rotate in shifts no longer than 15 hours to stay sharp and safe while covering as much ground as possible.

I drive these roads every day—my husband and kids do too. I absolutely understand how important it is to feel confident that the city is prepared. While no snow response is ever perfect, our teams are working hard and improving every year to meet the needs of a growing city.

Let’s keep this conversation going—if you’ve experienced any specific concerns or have suggestions, I’d love to hear them. Let’s work together to make sure Eagle Mountain continues to be safe and responsive during the winter months.
